Rejuran s is a sister of Rejuran Healer. When Rejuran Healer was introduced, it became so popular in Singapore as an anti-ageing skin rejuvenation treatment. Rejuran contains polynucleotide, the building blocks of skin cells that help improve skin physiology by assisting with skin repair and collagen stimulation.
Due to the popularity of Rejuran Healer, the South Korean manufacturers introduced another skin repair product known as Rejuran s, targeted at treating depressed scars on the skin such as acne scars.
How are depressed acne scars formed?
Acne scars form when deep inflammation with cyst formation happens in acne. As the inflammation settles, the skin tries to repair itself by producing collagen to replace the damaged ones. Often however, the new collagen that is laid down instead forms twisted bands in the skin which causes shape change and downward pull of the skin, resulting in a deep depressed scar. These scars can be ice pick scars, rolling scars, box scars.
Rejuran s (scar) contains long chain polymeric nucleotides derived from salmon DNA. These highly purified long chain polynucleotides have a high water binding capacity and viscoelasticity that is suitable for reconstruction and improvement in the appearance of your skin. It induces collagen synthesis and healing of the skin structure. It also acts like a filler to fill up sunken scars.
Rejuran s can work together with fractional resurfacing lasers (such as CO2, clear and brilliant) to target depressed acne scars. It builds on the ability of polynucleotide in plumping up depressed scars by creating a three-dimensional scaffold for collagen formation.
How is Rejuran s different from Rejuran Healer?Rejuran s is a more viscous form of Rejuran Healer. It has the same polynucleotide concentration as Rejuran Healer, but due to the higher viscosity, it is able to plump up depressed acne scars not amenable to laser treatment alone. This is usually done in conjunction with subcision treatment.
Similar to Rejuran Healer, full effects of treatment will take time. Generally speaking, at least 3 treatments are usually required to produce a visible and more lasting effect.
Most patients will require 3-4 treatments at monthly intervals, or until the appearance of the scar is satisfactory.
Rejuran s is a safe treatment. In clinical studies done, no adverse effects were seen from the treatment. Common side effects may include mild swelling or redness over injection sites which is temporary.
After a thorough consultation with our doctors to ensure all your queries are addressed, a numbing cream is applied to the treatment area for 15-20 minutes to minimize any discomfort. Following this, a subcision is performed before injecting Rejuran-S (scar) under the scar.
Subcision breaks down the abnormal collagen and scar tissue to allow Rejuran s to work in the area by stimulating normal collagen and repair of the skin to result in a shallower scar.
After the injection, our therapists will apply some healing creams to the treated areas.
What can I expect after having the Rejuran s (scar) treatment?
After your first treatment, you will notice a shallower acne scar. However, this is not the final appearance of the scar, as most scars will see a depression again as the immediate post-procedure swelling subsides. However, with repeated treatments, the acne scar will generally become shallower and effects seen are typically permanent.
Rejuran s injections with subcision has a downtime of 2-3 days of small injection marks. Occasionally, small bruises may also occur in the treated areas.
Yes it can. Acne scarring is most commonly treated with skin resurfacing procedures such as fractional carbon dioxide lasers or fractional radiofrequency treatments.
